Snow removal delays possible
- Published: February 13, 2023
You may notice that snow cleanup in the Town of Oxford may take a bit longer than normal for the next few days. Unfortunately, a few of our larger pieces of equipment are either out for repairs or being worked on currently. We hope to have them operational very soon. Fortunately, it looks like warmer weather is coming for the end of the week which will help clear things away. We ask all residents to please do not park on the streets during a snow event and not to clear snow from your property onto the street or sidewalks. Public works thank you all for your understanding.

2023 African Heritage Month
- Published: February 7, 2023
Join Oxford Town Council as we celebrate African Heritage Month 2023.
The 2023 African Heritage Month theme, Seas of Struggle – African Peoples from Shore to Shore, recognizes the resiliency, strength, and determination of people of African descent from the shores of Africa to the shores of Nova Scotia -- with the Atlantic Ocean being the everlasting connection.
The theme highlights the role the sea has played in the long-standing history of people of African descent in the development of Canada and Nova Scotia. This year’s theme aligns with the United Nations’ International Decade for People of African Descent (DPAD) 2015-2024. The goal is to strengthen global cooperation in support of people of African descent, increase awareness and recognize their full and equal participation in society.
Nova Scotia has more than 50 historic African Nova Scotian communities with a long, deep and complex history dating back more than 400 years. African Heritage Month provides another opportunity to celebrate and promote the culture, legacy, achievements and contributions of people of African descent in Nova Scotia – past and present.

Expanded Heating Assistance Rebate Program
- Published: January 30, 2023
SERVICE NOVA SCOTIA/INTERNAL SERVICES - Applications Open for Expanded Heating Assistance Rebate Program
The newly expanded Heating Assistance Rebate Program (HARP) is now accepting applications to help more Nova Scotians than ever with rising home heating costs.
On December 14, Premier Tim Houston announced a $100-million funding increase to the program to allow more Nova Scotians to qualify and to provide a higher home heating rebate this winter. The rebate is now $1,000, up from $200. Households with a net income of up to $85,000 are eligible, a substantial increase from the previous income thresholds.
"The rising cost of living has created challenges for many Nova Scotians," said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services. "We are taking action to ensure the heat stays on this winter. This year's expanded Heating Assistance Rebate Program will help more people and provide more support than ever before."
Anyone who has already qualified for a HARP rebate this year does not need to reapply. They will receive an additional payment to top them up to $1,000. People who were denied the rebate also do not need to reapply - their applications are under review, and applicants who meet the new eligibility criteria will receive the full rebate.
All eligible applicants will receive the rebate in two to eight weeks.
For more information on the program or to apply, please go to Heating Assistance Rebate Program (HARP).
