Oxford Beautification Facade Program

oxford

The Town of Oxford is fortunate to have historic buildings that date back to the 1800s and early 1900s.

The  pdf 2025 Oxford Beautification Facade Program(3.58 MB) will be administered by the Town of Oxford and is supported by the River Philip Foundation, which is providing funds to improve the commercial streetscape on Main Street and Water Street, zoned under the Town of Oxford Bylaws in the “Downtown Commercial” area.

The façade improvement program is to help improve the overall look and feel of the downtown and to spark additional investment in the downtown by business proprietors. Better façades will provide many benefits:

• a more appealing environment for both residents and visitors who shop in the Town
• protecting and enhancing the historical value of Oxford’s built environment
• improving property values for building owners
• increasing revenue for business owners

The Town of Oxford receives applications from those applying for support from the Façade program.

Once vetted at the staff level, applications will be forwarded to Oxford’s Beautification Advisory Committee (OBAC) for review and consideration.

OBAC, with support from the Chief Administration Officer, will have the authority to officially approve or deny an application.

If an application does not fully satisfy expectations, OBAC may correspond with the applicant to indicate how the application may be improved to meet the formal approval by OBAC.

Permits

Applying to this program is not the same as applying to the Town for a development or building permit.

Many of the projects funded under this program will also require a development and/or building permit from the Town of Oxford, and proponents must apply for any required permits before undertaking work.

If you are unsure whether your project requires a permit, please phone 902-447-2624.

Our Town of Oxford's success depends on ensuring that all residents of the Town of Oxford feel welcome here.

Today, new Oxford residents are a vital part of our community- bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas, starting businesses, and contributing to the vibrant diversity that we all value.

This week, we honour the spirit of unity that brings neighbours together across the Town of Oxford.

During Welcoming Week, I invite all residents of the Town of Oxford to join this movement of communities - nationwide and worldwide- by renewing our commitment to our core values and taking action in the spirit of welcoming. By working together, we can achieve greater prosperity and make the Town of Oxford the kind of place where diverse people from around the world feel valued and want to put down roots.

Regardless of where we are born or what we look like, we are Oxford residents, united in our efforts to build a stronger Town of Oxford. By recognizing the contributions that we all make to create a vibrant culture and growing economy, we make our community more prosperous and more inclusive to all who call it home.

Let us come together to build communities where every resident has the opportunity to contribute at their best. Let us come together to create more prosperous communities and to reaffirm that the Town of Oxford is a welcoming community.

Now, therefore, I Greg Henley, Mayor, bur virtue of the authority vested in my by the laws of the Town of Oxford, do hereby proclaim the week of September 12 -21, 2025 Welcoming Week. I call upon the people of the Town of Oxford to join together to build stronger communities across our Town, the County of Cumberland and Province of Nova Scotia.
