pdf Remembrance Day(23 KB) - Mayor and Council Proclamation Message

On November 11, we pause to pay tribute to our servicemen and women on this solemn day of remembrance.

We honour their service and their sacrifices and never forget their extraordinary bravery.

Today, Canadian service women and men continue to serve courageously in our military and on combat and peacekeeping missions in theatres around the world.

On behalf of the Town of Oxford, we thank all veterans for everything they have done for Canada.

Their legacy is a strong, free Canada including this warm welcoming community we call home.

On Remembrance Day, join us at the Cenotaph to recognize those who have served and continue to serve our nation.

Changes coming to recycling in Nova Scotia

Cumberland Region Solid Waste Services

Changes are coming to recycling in Nova Scotia!
New provincial rules will soon shift recycling responsibility from municipalities to the companies that make and sell packaging and paper.
Starting on December 1, 2025 the Town of Amherst, Municipality of Cumberland, and Town of Oxford are partnering with Circular Materials, a not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Nova Scotia.
Residents will continue to receive the same reliable services - with the added benefit of being able to recycle even more materials!
Stay tuned as we get closer- we'll share updates on what materials you'll be able to add to your recycling bags and how this benefits our community and environment.

October 9 is World Ombuds Day

Thursday, October 9th, 2025, is World Ombuds Day, a day to raise awareness and recognise the unique role of an Ombudsman.

People interact with government services in many ways each day in areas such as healthcare, education, recreation, social development, justice, transit, waste collection, and many more.

In Nova Scotia, the Ombudsman is an independent officer of the House of Assembly who promotes fairness and accountability in the administration of provincial and municipal laws including the delivery of public programs and services. The Office of the Ombudsman examines the delivery of those public programs and services to ensure they are being administered fairly. The Office also investigates disclosures of wrongdoing involving provincial government and provides focussed outreach to children, youth, and seniors in care of the province, and persons in custody at provincial correctional facilities.

You can learn more about the Office of the Ombudsman by visiting their website at ombudsman.novascotia.ca as well as through a free online module ‘Nova Scotia Office of the Ombudsman: An Introduction’ which is available on its website at https://ombudsman.novascotia.ca/introduction/index.html#/  Provincial employees can access the free eLearning module through SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS).

If you have questions about the role of the Ombudsman, or if you wish to arrange a presentation on the work of the Office, please contact 902-424-6780, toll-free at 1-800-670-1111, or by email at ombudsman@novascotia.ca
