Proclamation - Safety and Health Week - May 4 - 9, 2026

Whereas the Town of Oxford recognizes the importance of Safety and Health across Canada; and

Whereas the goal of Safety and Health Week is to focus employers, employees, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community; and

Whereas the Corporate Mission "To be a best practices leader of municipal government and a collaborative partner with our member municipalities and community partners" includes the commitment to provide a safe and healthy workplace through the elimination of workplace hazards causing injury, harassment, and violence for all its employees, contractors, volunteers, and visitors;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Mayor Greg Henley, on behalf of Town of Oxford Council do hereby proclaim May 4 to 9, 2026 to be  pdf 'Safety and Health Week' in Oxford, NS!'(39 KB)

Proclamation - Heart Failure Awareness Week - May 3-9, 2026

WHEREAS over 750, 000 people of all ages in Canada are living with heart failure, and heart failure is expected to cost the Canadian economy $2.8 billion per year by 2030, and

WHEREAS people with heart failure experience debilitating symptoms such as shortness of breath, swelling and exhaustion, and people who care for those with heart failure are often

overwhelmed and stressed, and

WHEREAS the Canadian Heart Failure Society is an organization of volunteer cardiovascular professionals and patients who work hard to improve care for patients with heart failure in close collaboration with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society, the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses, the Canadian Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, the Heartlife Foundation, and the Quebec Heart Failure Society, and

WHEREAS initiated by the Canadian Heart Failure Society and its partner organizations, Canadian Heart Failure Awareness Week is now celebrated across Canada to improve awareness of and education on heart failure, and

WHEREAS Heart Failure Awareness Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the causes of heart failure and the impact it has on individuals living with heart failure and on their

caregivers;

NOW KNOW YE THAT We do by these presents proclaim and declare that May 3 - 9, 2026, shall be known as  pdf "Heart Failure Awareness Week" in the Town of Oxford.(29 KB)

Oxford Depot Summer Hours start May 7, 2026

Summer hours start the first Thursday after May 1st (unless a Thursday), and run until October 1 (which happens to be a Thursday this year).

Starting on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the hours will be: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

 After October 1, the Oxford Depot returns to 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM hours on Thursdays.

 Friday and Saturday hours remain 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (excluding holidays)

Whereas 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Gaelic Nova Scotia Month which is a time to embrace, honour, celebrate, and raise awareness of the language, culture, history, contributions, and achievements of Gaels across the province; and

Whereas Gaelic language and culture are integral components of the identity of Nova Scotia, and that Gaels represent one of the earliest non-Indigenous cultural groups to settle in Mi'kma'ki; and

new generations of language learners and cultural champions continue to build upon the legacy of Gaelic Nova Scotia's tradition bearers; and

Whereas government commits to collaborating with Gaelic communities to support the growth of Gaelic Nova Scotia through opportunities for language acquisition, cultural awareness and capacity building within communities to ensure Gaelic language and culture remain vibrant elements of the living linguistic and cultural landscape of Nova Scotia;

Therefore I, Greg Henley, Mayor of the Town of Oxford do hereby proclaim May 2026 as 'Gaelic Nova Scotia Month' in the Municipality of the Town of Oxford.

WHEREAS Lyme disease is a serious illness caused by the bite of a blacklegged tick infected with the bacterium Borre/ia burgdorferi: and

WHEREAS blacklegged ticks carrying a variety of diseases or illnesses can now be found in all parts of Nova Scotia; and

WHEREAS awareness, education and practicing preventative measures, such as daily tick checks and proper tick removal, can help reduce your chances of contracting tick borne diseases;

THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Mayor Gregory Henley, on behalf of the Town of Oxford, do hereby proclaim May 2026 as pdf "Lyme Disease Awareness Month"(37 KB) .
