"Whereas the Government of Canada has designated September 30th as the annual pdf National Day for Truth and Reconciliation(57 KB) , in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's call to Action #80, to mark the tragic history and harm caused by the legacy of residential schools; and

Whereas this day commemorates and honours the children who never returned home, and acknowledges the resilience, dignity and strength of survivors and intergenerational survivors, families, and communities; and

Whereas the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action provide important guidance to all individuals and governments to redress the legacy of residential schools and advance reconciliation; and

Whereas the Town of Oxford is dedicated to implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action relating to municipalities;

Now Therefore Be It Resolved That I, Mayor Greg Henley, on behalf of the Town of Oxford Council, do hereby proclaim September 30th as the "National Day of Truth and Reconciliation" in Oxford, NS; and

Further Be It Resolved That Council urges Oxford residents to observe this day with reflection and action to build understanding of our shared history with Indigenous Peoples. By acknowledging the truths of our past, we strengthen our commitment to a future founded on respect, unity, and understanding."
