AMMONIA ALARM TESTING BULLETIN
Quarterly Alarm Test Dates
The Town’s Ammonia Emergency Alarm System is tested quarterly on the third Tuesday of January, April, July, and October.
During testing, the alarm will sound at 12:00 p.m. (noon) for approximately 3 minutes to ensure the system is functioning and residents are familiar with the alarm tone.
What to Do If You Hear the Alarm Outside of Testing Times:
1. Stay Calm and Take Shelter Immediately
If indoors:
- Shelter in place.
- Close all windows and doors.
- Turn off heating, ventilation, or air conditioning (HVAC) systems to prevent outside air from entering.
If outdoors:
- Do not approach the facility.
- Seek shelter in the nearest enclosed building, preferably upwind of the facility.
- If shelter is unavailable, cover your mouth and nose with a cloth and move away from the area.

3. Do Not Call 911 Unless You Have an Emergency
- Keeping emergency lines open ensures help is available for those in immediate danger.
